Candle Care

Cotton Wicks - Your candle arrives already trimmed to the ideal burn height. Continue to trim the cotton wick to 1/4 inch with a wick trimmer before lighting.

*The first time you light a new candle, let it burn for 3-4 hours until the pool of wax reaches the edge of the vessel. If not properly burned, there is a risk of tunneling down the center of the candle and missing out on hours of enjoyable scent.

*Do not burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time as this will cause carbon to collect on the wick and the end of your wick will mushroom.

*Burn your candle on an even  fire resistant surface and stay away from drafts. The breeze will cause your candle wick to create smoke and at times, soot.

*When your candle burns down to less than 1/4 inch, stop using for safety reasons.

*Components like citrus oils, cinnamon oil, and vanillin in fragrance oils can cause the color of the interior of the vessel to change.

*If you find that your wick has "tunneled" (an unfortunate process where the wick burns straight down the center of a candle and forms a tunnel), you can try to fix this by scooping out the wax that is stuck to the glass with a knife or spoon. Scoop out enough until the wax is even with the surface of the wick.

*If your wick is too short, you can troubleshoot. If the wood wick was trimmed too short and the candle won't stay lit because it is "drowning" in a pool of wax, try using a paper towel or napkin to soak up some of the excess wax. Continue this process until your wick has room to breathe!

Wax Melts - Wax melts should only be used in an appropriate wax melt burner. Follow instructions from the manufacturer of your wax warmer. Add a single piece of the wax melt at a time until the required melted wax fill is reached. Do not overfill. Keep your wax melts in a cool dry place.

*To remove your wax, melt slightly and gently push the hard wax out of your burner. Using a tissue to scoop up the wax, dispose of the contents.

Safety

While Burning

  • Never leave a candle unattended.
  • Never burn a candle on or near anything that can catch fire. Keep burning candles away from furniture, drapes, bedding, carpets, books, paper, flammable decorations, etc.
  • Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets. Do not place lighted candles where they can be knocked over by children, pets or anyone else.
  • Never touch or move a candle while it is burning or while the wax is liquefied.
  • Don’t burn a candle all the way down. For a margin of safety, discontinue burning a candle when 1/2 inch remains in the container.
  • Place burning candles at least three inches apart from one another. This is to make sure they don’t melt one another, or create their own drafts that will cause the candles to burn improperly.
  • Extinguish a candle if the flame becomes too high or flickers repeatedly. Let the candle cool, trim the wick, and check for unwanted drafts before re-lighting.
  • Never use a candle as a night light or while you may fall asleep.
  • Be very careful if using candles during a power outage. Flashlights and other battery-powered lights are safer sources of light during a power failure. Never use a candle during a power outage to look for things in a closet, or when fueling equipment – such as a lantern or kerosene heater.
